“PCS has many positives;

  • There are no gaps on the MAR sheets.
  • It eliminates mistakes – e.g. PRN medication is given at the correct time, therefore ensuring a resident cannot be overdosed with pain relief.
  • Medication cannot be missed because the handset reminds you of any missed drugs.
  • The fax facility to obtain copy discharge sheets is a great asset - this takes only a couple of minutes to receive.
  • The facility to make notes is useful for enhancing communication between nurses and continuity of care.
  • Booking in meds is really simple - this has reduced the time dramatically.
  • Noting of med administration is so much easier - coding is done for you
  • Drug ordering is made simple.

Pharmacy Plus staff have been extremely supportive and helpful.”

“Waterloo have been extremely delighted with the PCS system for administering medication as it minimises human medication errors. There are clear, precise computerised audits and reports that are done weekly and daily if needed. We can therefore look at staff statistics and monitor their progress in administering medication such as time taken on each drug round and possible near misses. Also the reports allow us to audit each resident. The PCS system also rules out any written common errors such as missing signatures on MAR sheets, as each staff member have their own pin number. Staff have been very impressed by the booking in of monthly medication as this time has been reduced considerably. We feel that having the PCS system has improved our standards in all areas of medication within the home. Any problems with the PCS system have been dealt with promptly and efficiently and staff have been provided with excellent training and someone is always on the end of the phone if needed.”
