In the average medication trolley, by the time you have stored the blister packs, there is very little space for non-blistered medication such as boxes and bottles, liquids and eye drops. Valuable space in the treatment room is then taken up to store medicines and time is wasted on endless visits to the treatment room to get everything you need.
When medicines are not all available to hand or are disorganised, it can lead to a lot of time wasting and even lead to picking up the wrong drug for the wrong patient. It’s even harder to see which medicines are running out which can lead to residents going without.
And of course, the typical medication trolley is that is heavy and cumbersome. When fully loaded, it can difficult to push and manoeuvre.
